After a late breakfast, I explore the city.
Was die wenigsten wissen - der Sitz des chilenischen Kongresses befindet sich in Valparaiso. Die eigentliche Hauptstadt ist jedoch Santiago.
Die Stadt hat 278.000 Einwohner. Mit den umliegenden Gemeinden sind es 905.000 Einwohner.
Die Stadt gilt als kulturelle Hauptstadt Chiles. Im Juli 2003 wurde der historische Stadtkern mit seiner Architektur aus dem 19. und 20. Jahrhundert von der UNESCO zum Weltkulturerbe erklärt.

Die Gründung der Stadt erfolgt im Jahr 1544 durch den Spanier Juan Bautista Pastene. Während der Kolonialzeit entwickelte sich Valparaíso zunächst nur langsam und blieb über lange Zeit ein unbedeutendes Fischerdorf, was auch auf die zahlreichen Überfälle von Piraten und Freibeutern zurückzuführen ist. So überfiel Francis Drake auf seiner Weltumsegelung am 5. Dezember 1578 die Stadt, erbeutete ein Schiff und plünderte die Häuser.
The founding of the town was in 1544 by the Spaniard Juan Bautista Pastene. During the colonial period, Valparaíso initially developed only slowly and remained for a long time as a insignificant fishing village, which is numerous attacked by pirates and buccaneers. Francis Drake attack the city on his circumnavigation on 5th December 1578. He captured a ship and plundered the houses.
El fundador de la ciudad fue en 1544 por el español de Juan Bautista Pastene. Durante el período colonial, Valparaíso inicialmente desarrollado muy lentamente y se mantuvo durante mucho tiempo como una insignificante aldea de pescadores, que es atacada por numerosos piratas y bucaneros. Francis Drake atacan la ciudad en su periplo el 5 de diciembre de 1578. Se capturaron un barco y saquearon las casas.

Die Stadt erstreckt sich über eine Vielzahl von Hügeln. Auf 15 der wichtigsten Hügeln führt eine Standseilbahn.
Hier bieten sich mir unzählige Fotomotive, wie zum Beispiel diese, besonders bemalte Eingangstüre.
Über diesen besonderen Stiegenaufgang kommt man zu den Behausungen der "Valparaiso-Riesen-Tarantel".
Am Abend geht es wieder zurück nach Santiago. Morgen Früh geht mein Flieger nach Rapa Nui.
