DER FISCHER VON FUKUSHIMA / THE FISHERMAN FROM FUKUSHIMA

Yokohama/Kanagawa - Tomioka/Fukushima

Mein erster Tag bringt mich nach Tomioka, einer kleines Stadt, zirka 280 Kilometer nordöstlich von Yokohama, wo ich heute gestartet bin. Direkt daneben liegt der Atomreaktor, Fukushima I.
My first day takes me to Tomioka, a small town about 280 kilometers northeast of Yokohama, where I started today. The nuclear reactor, Fukushima I, is right next to it.

Heute in der Früh wird es eng. Ich drucke noch die letzten Buchungen und Planungen aus. Die ersten 2 Wochen sind grob geplant. Danach sehen wir, wie weit ich komme.

It gets tight today in the morning. I print out the last bookings and plans. The first 2 weeks are roughly planned. Then I will see how far I can get.

Es dauert bis alles am Motorrad verstaut ist und ich für den Regen ferig angezogen bin.

It takes a while until everything is fixed on the motorcycle and I am ready for the rain.

Mit Google-Maps in den Ohren und strömenden Regen kämpfe ich mich nach Norden durch. Dazuwischen mache ich Pause. Auch im Restaurant gibt es einen Automaten, bei dem ich Geld eingebe, dann das gewünschte Menü wähle und warte, bis es fertig gekocht ist.

With Google Maps in my ears and pouring rain, I fight my way up north. In between, I take a break. There is also a machine in the restaurant where I enter money, then select the menu of my choice and wait until it is cooked.

Nach 6 Stunden habe ich mein Hotel in Tomioka/Fukushima erreicht. Das Hotel Hojinkan liegt auf einer kleinen Anhöhe, über der Stadt und wurde erst vor einem Jahr eröffnet. Für YEN 7.520,- / $ 70,- / € 62,- bekomme ich ein schönes Zimmer, die Benutzung des hoteleigenen Onsen und ein ausreichendes Frühstück.
After 6 hours I reached my hotel in Tomioka / Fukushima. The Hotel Hojinkan is on a small hill above the city and is opened a year ago. For YEN 7,520, - / $ 70, - / € 62, - I get a nice room, the use of the hotel's onsen, and a big breakfast.

Ich checke im Hotel ein und bringe meine Sachen aufs Zimmer. Danach mache ich mich daran den Strand zu erkunden. Das Atomkraftwerk Fukushima 1 ist zum Greifen nahe.

I check-in at the hotel and bring my things to the room. Then I start to explore the city. The Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant is quite close.

Die Stadt wurde am 11. März 2011 vom Tōhoku-Erdbeben und dem davon ausgelösten

Tsunami getroffen. 355 Wohngebäude wurden völlig und 2.819 teilweise zerstört als sich die Wassermassen vom Meer in die Stadt wälzten.

The city was hit by the Tōhoku earthquake on March 11, 2011. 355 residential buildings were completely and 2,819 partially destroyed when the water mass rolled from the sea into the city.

Am nächsten Tag verließen alle überlebenden Bewohner die Stadt. Mit einer Ausnahme - Naoto Matsumura, ein Bauer, der sich um die zurückgelassenen Tiere kümmerte.

The next day, all of the surviving residents left the city. With one exception - Naoto Matsumura, a farmer who took care of the animals left behind.

An dem Sicherunsmaßnahmen für die Stadt wird noch immer gebaut.
Security measures for the city are still under construction.

Neu erbaute Häuser prägen nun großteils das Stadtbild. Der Großteil der Bewohner ist jedoch nicht mehr zurück gekommen.

Newly built houses now largely shape the cityscape. However, the majority of the residents have not returned.

Daneben stehen noch viele Ruinen von verlassenen Häusern.

There are also many ruins of abandoned houses.

Diese Fahrräder stehen, zugewachsen von Gras seit knapp 10 Jahren unverändert bei einem verlassenen Haus.
These bikes, grown over by grass, have remained unchanged in an abandoned house for almost 10 years.

Der Großteil der Stadt wurde abgerissen und neu errichtet. Trotzdem findet man noch immer sanierungsbedürftige Gebäude.
Most of the city was demolished and rebuilt. Nevertheless, there are still buildings in need of renovation.

Auf einer leichten Anhöhe finde ich diesen Friedhof.
I find this cemetery on a slight hill.

Ich fahre zum Strand runter. Das Kernkraftwerk, Fukushima 1 ist zum Greifen nahe.
I'm driving down to the beach. The nuclear power plant, Fukushima 1 is very close.

Und dann sehe ich ihn - den Fischer von Fukushima. Er hat seine Frau und seine beiden Kinder beim Tsunami verloren. Er geht jeden Tag an den Strand und wirft seine Angel aus. So als würde er seine Familie dem Meer wieder entreissen wollen.
And then I see him - the fisherman from Fukushima. He lost his wife and two children to the tsunami. He goes every day to the beach and casts his fishing rod. As if he wanted to take his family out of the sea again.

Ein letzter, wehmütiger Blick und dann fahe ich zurück zum Hotel.

One last, wistful look back and then I drive back to the hotel.

Ich beginne meinen ersten Blog zu schreiben. Anschließend gehe ich in den hoteleignen Onsen, wasche all meine Körperteile und lege mich in das heiße Wasser und schließe meine Augen. 
I'm starting to write my first blog. Then I go to the hotel's onsen, wash all of my body parts, and lie down in the hot water and close my eyes.

How do you get a Japanese to be excited?

Ich bin heute schon früh unterwegs. Ich habe knapp 2 Stunden mit dem Bus und der Bahn vor mir.
I am early on the way. I have 2 hours to drive by bus and train to reach my goal.

In der Zugstation sehe ich diesen Automaten. Es ist kein gewöhnlicher Automat. Er hat kalte und heiße Getränke sowie Snacks zur Auswahl. Manche Automaten haben auch Eis im Angebot.
I see this vending machine at the train station. It is not a usual machine. It serves cold and warm drinks and also snacks. Some are also offering icecream.

Aus Sicherheitsgründen gibt es Türen, die sich erst nach Stillstand des Zuges öffnen. Zusätzlich schützt es vor durchfarenden Schnellzügen.
There are safety doors. They open when the train has arrived. They also protect from high-speed trains who will not stop at that station.

In Japan ist es selbstverständlich, dass jeder Masken trägt.

It is common in Japan that everybody is wearing a mask.

Am Fußweg zu meinem Ziel, sehe ich dieses Bild am Boden. Japan ist sehr sauber. In Japan gibt es (fast) keine Mistkübel und jeder nimmt seinen Müll mit nach Haise um ihn im Mültrennungsraum zu entsorgen.
I see a picture on the floor. Japan is very clean. There are nearly no wast bins and everybody takes their waste home to bring it to their recycling place.

Was auch ganz normal ist, ist dass Wohnbauten und Industrieanlagen gleich direkt nebeneinander liegen.
It is quite normal that living and industrial areas are next to each other.

Endlich bin ich am Ziel angekommen - bei Honda Dream Nerima!
I have finally reached my goal - Honda Dream Nerima!

Vor knapp 2 Wochen habe ich das Motorrad besichtigt und den Kauf vereinbart. Heute, nach dem Service, neuen Reifen, Sturzbügel, Tankrucksack und Topcaseeinbau komme ich es abholen.
Almost 2 weeks ago I inspected the motorcycle and agreed to buy it. Today, after the service, new tires, crash bars, tank bag and top case installation, I come to pick it up.

Und dann ist es endlich soweit! Ich kann mein neues Bike in Empfang nehmen.
And then the time has finally come! I get my new bike.

Das ist Naoki Kanno - ein super Berater. Er hat mich durch all den Bürokratiedschungel begleitet, der in Japan eine wirkliche Herausforderung ist.
This is Naoki Kanno - a great advisor. He accompanied me through all the bureaucracy jungle, which is a real challenge in Japan.

Noch mehr Freude hat er, als ich das Motorrad bezahlte - 1 Million YEN (zusätzlich zu den 100.000,- YEN Anzahlung).
He was even more happy when I paid the motorcycle - 1 million YEN (in addition to the 100,000, - YEN deposit).

Alles Gute kommt von oben. Auf dem Weg nach Hause muss ich tanken. Es gibt keine einzige Zapfsäule bei dieser Shell Station. Das Benzin kommt durch einen Schlauch von oben. Die beiden Eigentümer im Pensionsalter rätseln zuerst, was denn da reinkommen soll. Irgendwie schaffen wir das dann auch noch.
All good things come from above. I have to fill up gasoline on the way home. There is not a single petrol pump at this Shell Station. The gasoline comes through a hose from above. The two retired owners are first puzzled as to what should they put in. Somehow we found the right gasoline.

Nach über 5 Stunden bin ich wieder zu Hause! Morgen geht es dann endlich los.
I'm back home after 5 hours! Tomorrow I will finally start my trip.
