Die Wiener Rucksacktouristen Katharina Koller (25) und Peter Kirsten Rabitsch (28) waren Ende Jänner 2006 mit einem Bus von Copacabana am Titicacasee nach La Paz aufgebrochen, dabei aber von falschen Polizisten aufgehalten und auf eine falsche Polizeiwache gebracht worden.

The Vienna backpackers Katharina Koller (25) and Peter Kirsten Rabitsch (28) had left the end of January 2006 with a bus from Copacabana on Lake Titicaca to La Paz, but it was stopped by police and brought to a false police guard was wrong.

Der Vater von Peter Rabitsch fand sich nie damit ab, dass die Ermittlungen der bolivianischen Behörden mehr als schleppend verliefen. Die Familie engagierte einen Privatdetektiv und erreichte schließlich, dass auch österreichische Kriminalbeamte in Bolivien tätig werden durften. Im August 2006 kam schließlich Bewegung in die Ermittlungen. Der Kopf der Bande, Ramiro Milan Fernandez, wurde nach monatelanger Flucht durch Bolivien zusammen mit seiner Frau bei einem Einbruch in ein Handygeschäft in der Stadt Trinidad verhaftet.

The father of Peter Rabitsch never took off so that the investigation proceeded slowly over the Bolivian authorities. The family hired a private investigator and eventually reached, that Austrian detectives were allowed to operate in Bolivia. In August 2006 finally began to move into the investigation. The head of the gang, Ramiro Fernandez Milan, was arrested after months of fleeing from Bolivia with his wife during a burglary of a mobile phone shop in the city of Trinidad.

El padre de Peter Rabitsch nunca despegó por lo que la investigación avanzaba lentamente por las autoridades bolivianas. La familia contrató a un investigador privado y llegó finalmente, que los detectives de Austria se les permitió operar en Bolivia. En agosto de 2006, finalmente comenzó a moverse en la investigación. El jefe de la banda, Ramiro Fernández Milán, fue detenido tras meses de huir de Bolivia con su esposa durante un robo en una tienda de telefonía móvil en la ciudad de Trinidad.

Der Fall löste auch in der bolivianischen Öffentlichkeit große Anteilnahme aus. Im Zuge der Ermittlungen stellte sich heraus, dass sowohl Polizisten als auch Justizangehörige aus Profitgier in engem Kontakt mit der Bande gestanden und mit dieser teilweise sogar kollaboriert hatten. 

The case also sparked in the Bolivian public from great compassion. Presented in the course of the investigation revealed that both police and judicial members for profit been in close contact with the gang and with this in some cases even had collaborated.

Ramiro Milan Fernandez ist Donnerstagabend, am 3.11.2011 tot in seiner Zelle im Hochsicherheitsgefängnis Chonchocoro aufgefunden worden.
Five years after the murders of the backpackers Vienna Katharina Koller (25) and Peter Kirsten Rabitsch (28) in Bolivia has sentenced the main perpetrator committed in his cell. Ramiro Fernandez Milan is Thursday evening, on 3 November 2011 was found dead in his cell in the maximum security prison Chonchocoro.

Am Hafen von Puno suche ich mir ein Boot das mich über den Titicaca See zu den Uros Inseln bringt. Die Destination ist sehr beliebt und es fährt alle paar Minuten ein Boot.

At the port of Puno, I pick a boat that brings me on the Lake Titicaca to the Uros Islands. The destination is very popular and it runs every few minutes a boat.

On the way to the Uros Islands we see the first fishermen who go out hunting together.

Und dann geht es auch schon in die Schilfgürtel. Das Volk der Uru oder auch Uro ist seit 1958 ausgestorben, trotzdem versuchen ihre Nachfahren zumindest einen Teil der Urukultur zu erhalten. Sie nannten sich früher Kot-Suns, „Seemenschen“, und galten als das wildeste Volk im Inkareich, mit einer sehr dunklen Hautfarbe. Da die Urus sich bei Auseinadersetzungen immer auf ihre Schilfinseln im Titicacasee zurückzogen, konnten sie von den Inkas nie unterworfen werden.

They called themselves earlier Kot Suns, "Seemenschen", and were considered to be the wildest people in the Inca Empire, with a very dark skin color.
