Mit den ersten Sonnenstrahlen verlassen wir den Talkessel von La Paz. Je weiter oben jemand wohnt um so ärmer ist er. Die Reichen leben unten im Stadtzentrum.

Nach dem Frühstück wird es dann wirklich ernst. Zirka 50 Kilometer nordöstlich von La Paz biegen wir von der aspahltierten Strasse auf einen Schotterweg ab. Ab jetzt geht es fast 3.500 Meter runter bis zur Provinzstadt Coroico.
After breakfast it is really serious. About 50 kilometers northeast of La Paz, we leave the asphalted road onto a dirt road. As of now it is down nearly 3,500 meters to the provincial town of Coroico.

Después del desayuno, que es realmente grave. A unos 50 kilómetros al noreste de La Paz, dejamos la carretera asfaltada en un camino de tierra. A partir de ahora se ha reducido a casi 3.500 metros de la ciudad provincial de Coroico.

Die Verkehrsregeln sind hier ausser Kraft gesetzt. man fährt links, also an der Abrundkante, die man damit ständig im Blickwinkel hat.

Das Problem der Strasse sind nicht die steilen Abhänge, sondern der Gegenverkehr. 1983 passierte hier der schlimmste Unfall in der Geschichte Boliviens, als sich ein LKW und ein Bus begegneten. 
The problem of road are not the steep slopes, but the oncoming traffic. 1983 here is the worst accident happened in the history of Bolivia, when a truck and a bus met.

Nach gut 2 Stunden erreichen wir die ersten Häuser vor Coroico. Wir gönnen uns ein eisgekühltes Coca Cola und dann wird es noch einmal spannen.

After the cautious way down we decide to take the Carretera de la Muerte to back up. This time, with significantly higher speed.

Am Rückweg kommt uns ein Pärchen aus Deutschland entgegen. Sie wollen ebenfalls die Carretera de la Muerte fahren. Wir verabreden uns zum Abendessen in La Paz. Wir haben die beiden nie mehr wiedergesehen.........

On the way back we meet a couple from Germany. They also want the Carretera de la Muerte drive. We arrange to meet for dinner at La Paz, we have both never seen again .........

Heute will man mir mein Motorrad an der Grenze einziehen. Da stehen mir gleich die Haare zu Berge!

Hoy en día, quieren confiscar mi motocicleta en la frontera. Acerca de esto son mis pelos de punta!

Kaum habe ich heute Puno verlassen, wartet auch schon eine Polizeikontrolle auf mich. Es sind zirka 20 Polizisten mit Autos und Motorrädern. Ich entschliesse mich stehen zu bleiben. Meine Versicherung wird kontrolliert - die gilt leider nicht für Peru.
As soon as I leave today Puno, already are waiting a police check on me. There are about 20 policeman with cars and motorcycles. I decide to stop. My insurance will checked - which unfortunately does not apply for Peru.
Tan pronto como me voy hoy Puno, ya están a la espera un control policial en mí. Hay alrededor de 20 policías con los coches y motocicletas. Decido parar. Mi seguro se comprueba - que, desgraciadamente, no se aplica para el Perú.

Ich erreiche die Grenze von Peru nach Bolivien. Zuerst wird mein Reisepass ausgestempelt. Danach geht es zum Zoll. mein Motorrad ist im Dezember 2010 nach Peru eingereist. Das ausgestellte Permissio gilt nur 3 Monate. Ich bin gut vorbereitet und habe einige Schreiben um einen Unfall und Motorradreparatur zu erklären. Der Zollbeamte erklärt mir, das dies nicht akzeptiert wird. Er muss mein Motorrad einziehen. Ich könne es aber an einer anderen Grenzstelle probieren, dort sind die Zöllner angeblich nicht so streng.
I reach the border from Peru to Bolivia. First, my passport will be stamped. Then it goes to the inch. My bike is entered in December 2010 for Peru. The exhibited Permissio is only 3 months. I am well prepared and have to explain a few letters to an accident and motorcycle repair. The customs officer told me that this is not accepted. He needs to collect my bike. I could try but at another border crossing, there are the tax collectors allegedly not so strict.

Llego a la frontera de Perú a Bolivia. En primer lugar, el pasaporte será sellado. Entonces va a la pulgada. Mi moto se introduce en diciembre de 2010 para el Perú. El Permissio expuesto está a sólo 3 meses. Estoy bien preparado y tener que explicar unas cuantas letras de un accidente y reparación de motocicletas. El funcionario de aduanas me dijo que esto no es aceptado. Él tiene que recoger mi bici. Podría intentarlo, pero en otro cruce de la frontera, están los recaudadores de impuestos que supuestamente no tan estricta.

Ich ziehe mich gerade wieder an, da kommt einer der Zöllner auf mich zu. Ob ich noch einmal nach Peru einreise mit meinem Motorrad? Nein. Er sagt mir, dass ich auch bei der anderen Grenze nicht durchgelassen werde. Es gibt aber einen Weg das Motorrad aus Peru raus zu schmuggeln.

I just put on my clothes. One of the tax collector come to me. He ask me if I want to immigrate to Peru again with my motorcycle? No. He tells me that I also can not pass the other border. But there is a way to smuggle the bike from Peru to Bolivia.

Acabo de ponerme la ropa. Uno de los recaudador de impuestos vienen a mí. Me pregunta si quiero emigrar a Perú otra vez con mi moto? No. Él me dice que tampoco puede pasar la frontera. Pero hay una manera de pasar de contrabando la moto de Perú a Bolivia.

Ich bitte ihn mir diesen Weg zu zeigen. Er nimmt sich ein taxi und ich folge ihm raus aus der Stadt. Wir halten an der Grenze für LKW`s. ich gehe mit ihm in einen Container. Dort übergebe ich ihm 20,- Dollar. Er ist für die Bolivianische Grenze hier verantwortlich und zeigt mir die Richtung. Ich fahre los und schlängle mich durch die LKW- Kolonne. Ein Zöllner springt mir in den Weg und will mich aufhalten. Ich gebe Gas und bin plötzlich in Bolivien.

Ich fahre zurück in die kleine bolivianische Grenzstadt. Es ist ein gutes Gefühl auf der anderen Seite zu stehen und nach Peru rüber zu schauen.

I go back into the small Bolivian border town. It's a good feeling on the other side to stand and look over to Peru.

Vuelvo a la pequeña ciudad fronteriza de Bolivia. Es una buena sensación en el otro lado de pie y mirar por encima de Perú.

Der Zöllner ist etwas verwundert, warum ich von "hinten" einreise, stellt mir dann aber doch mein bolivianisches Permissio aus. Anschliessend geht es zum Schalter für die Einreise von Personen. Noch nie habe ich mich so sehr über eine Einreise gefreut!!!

The tax collector is a little puzzled about my "back" entry, but then he gives me my Bolivian Permissio. Then it goes to the switch for the entry of persons. I've never been so pleased about an entry!

El recaudador de impuestos es un poco perplejo acerca de mi "vuelta" de entrada, pero luego me da a mi Permissio boliviano. Entonces va al interruptor de la entrada de personas. Nunca he estado tan contento con una entrada!

Offiziell ist meine KTM noch in Peru. Möge sie dort für immer ruhen. Ich schwinge mich in der Zwischenzeit auf meine Geister KTM und brause nach La Paz.

Dann geht es auch schon in den Talkessel - hinunter ins Stadtzentrum der 900.000 Einwohner Stadt. Mit einer Höhe von 3200 bis 4100 Metern Seehöhe ist die Stadt der höchstgelegene Regierungssitz der Erde.

Leo und Peter sind schon seit 2 Tagen in der Stadt. Sie haben ihre Ersatzteile in Cusco rechtzeitig bekommen und sind dann gleich wieder zurück nach Bolivien gefahren.

Leo and Peter have been since two days in the city. They got their spare parts in time in Cusco and drove then immediately  back to Bolivia.

Ich bin gerade beim Abpacken, da erscheinen die beiden auch schon. Ich gehe mich duschen und umziehen und dann gehen wir etwas Essen.
I'm just being packed down, as the two already appear. Going to shower and change clothes and thenwe go to eat something.

Sólo estoy siendo compactada, como los dos que ya aparecen. Va a la ducha y cambiarse de ropa y luego nos vamos a comer algo.

In den Strassen von La Paz wird so alles mögliche angeboten. Unter anderem werden hier Lama Embrios angeboten, die als Glücksbringer verwendet werden.

In the streets of La Paz, so everything possible will be offered. Among others are offered here lama embrios, which are used as lucky charms.

En las calles de La Paz, para que todo sea posible se ofrecerán. Entre otros se ofrecen aquí embrios lama, que se utilizan como amuletos de la suerte.

Wir finden ein urgemütliches Lokal und speisen ausgezeichnet.
We find a very cozy dining restaurant and eat excellent.

Encontramos un restaurante muy acogedor y comer excelente.

Morgen geht es auf die STRASSE DES TODES und da müssen wir ausgeschlafen sein.
Tomorrow we go on the DEATH ROAD and we must be well rested.
Mañana nos vamos en la CARRETERA DE LA MUERTE y tenemos que estar bien descansado.
